Motorcyclist is killed in Saturday crash on interstate
A motorcyclist was killed Saturday morning after hitting a vehicle on Interstate 20 near the Belair Road exit in Columbia County.
Larry Thomas White, 61, of Gainesville, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene about 9:45 a.m., said Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.
The accident occurred near the exit 194 overpass on I-20 at about 9 a.m., Collins said.
White didn't slow down with traffic in time in a construction zone, said Columbia County sheriff's Sgt. A.J. Lyons. He braked, was thrown from the bike and hit the back of a car, Lyons said. No one else was injured.

Man is assaulted outside his home
An Evans man told police early Friday that two men beat him outside his home.
The 20-year-old man said a friend dropped him off near his home about 3 a.m. As he approached his home, he said, two men pulled up in a black truck and approached him with objects in their hands.
After being struck several times on the head, the man said, he passed out. He remembers entering his home and going into the bathroom, where his brother found him.
The man said the men beat him, possibly with a tire iron or crow bar, and he said brass knuckles were mentioned during the attack. He was treated at Doctors Hospital.
Arsonist sets fire to vehicle for sale
Fire department officials said a vehicle for sale along Washington Road was set on fire Sunday.
A Columbia County sheriff's deputy responded at Washington and Gibbs roads about 4:30 a.m., to assist Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue personnel with a vehicle fire. A black 2003 Cadillac Deville, parked in a cleared field on the north shoulder of Washington Road, was on fire.
An investigator determined the fire was intentionally set.
Burglars vandalize Evans residence
An Evans woman called police Thursday after discovering the home she was renovating had been burglarized and vandalized.
The 57-year-old woman told police that she splits her time between the home and another Columbia County residence. She said she and her husband were there until dark Wednesday. When she returned to the house about 2:45 p.m. Thursday, she said the front door was open and the lights wouldn't come on. She said someone forced open the back door. An outdoor electrical box was damaged.
